Magic happens when you combine two or three fields together to come up with meaningful insights.
Personally, I believe FinOps has been one such field for me in which I am able to combine knowledge for -
Finance
Engineering
Cloud Computing
One of the next wave with FinOps as I see is going to be green computing or carbon-aware computing.
With Apple, already rolling out the option for carbon aware charging for iPhones, and the carbon impact of Cloud Computing increasing every day - the time for adopting Carbon Aware computing might be coming soon.
Personally, the direction I see it going is Software incorporating eco modes to reduce carbon emissions, either automatically or with user consent. Some other examples can be:
Video conferencing software adjusts the streaming quality to prioritize audio when bandwidth is low
TCP/IP increases transfer speed based on the data broadcasted
The web experience can improve based on device resources and bandwidth available.
Why do I care about this?
I started practicing Meditation actively since last year, and with meditation comes the feeling of love for nature and a feeling of oneness.
Although, reasons might be selfish, but the intention is to combine FinOps and Sustainability where I can measure my impact towards then environment.
